An exciting East v. West battle is about to be fought. The Victoria East Titans will head out to face off against the Victoria West Warriors at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Victoria East's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Fort Bend Kempner. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Grayson Youngblood was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Steele, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Victoria East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Victoria West entered their tilt with Lamar Consolidated on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Mustangs 10-0.
Aiden Deleon and Jay Guerrero made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Deleon didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Guerrero tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Deleon has posted since back in March. At the plate, Deleon got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Guerrero went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Brannan, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Evan Waters, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Victoria East pushed their record up to 27-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Victoria West, their record now sits at 16-6-2.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Victoria East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Victoria West struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
