Softball Recap: Scurry-Rosser Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Scurry-Rosser had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Nimitz on Saturday. The Scurry-Rosser Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Nimitz Vikings a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Madison Lumpkin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melanie Banks, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Alanah Greene was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Scurry-Rosser always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nimitz only posted an OBP of .333.

Scurry-Rosser is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. Nimitz's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Scurry-Rosser wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-2 defeat against Northwest on the 22nd. As for Nimitz, they have also already played their next contest, a 15-0 loss against Argyle on the 22nd.
