Preview: West Valley Eagles vs. Colusa RedHawks

West Valley is 3-0 against Colusa since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The West Valley Eagles are on the road again and play against the Colusa RedHawks at 7:00 p.m. on December 4th. Hopefully West Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Saturday.

West Valley's 20-10 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were beaten by Foothill 81-38. West Valley has not had much luck with Foothill recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Despite their loss, West Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Chase Kalnins, who scored 10 points along with 5 steals, was perhaps the best of all. The game was Kalnins' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Boemeke, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to 9 on the offensive boards, a fact Colusa proved on Friday. They came out on top against Oroville by a score of 61-48. Given Colusa's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while Oroville is ranked 1030th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Colusa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sutter Moss, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 21 rebounds. Jace Mackaben was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 5 rebounds.

The losses dropped West Valley to 1-3 and Foothill to 2-2.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as West Valley and Colusa are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. West Valley hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50 points per game. It's a different story for Colusa, though, as they've been averaging only 53 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.

West Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Colusa in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 55-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
