Softball Recap: Howard Has No Trouble Against Wilde Lake

Howard entered their tilt with Wilde Lake on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Wildecats get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The game marked the Lions' most dominant win of the season so far.

Olivia Coleman and Kiersten Black made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Coleman pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Black didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Coleman scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Black went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four runs. With that strong performance, Black is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game.

In other batting news, Hadley Coleman and Meleah Hannie did most of the damage at the plate: Coleman scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Hannie went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Coleman also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Jenna Beers was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Howard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .810. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Howard's victory bumped their record up to 4-1-1. As for Wilde Lake, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
