Softball Recap: Lake Shore Takes a Loss

Lake Shore has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.4 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Port Huron Northern Huskies. The Shorians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2015.

Sophia VanDenstorm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Renee Fremont made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Elise Badyna, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Lake Shore and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Port Huron Northern, they now have a winning record of 2-1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Shore will challenge Roseville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Shorians are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Port Huron Northern, they will venture away from home to face off against Memphis at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
