Softball Recap: Onaga Starts Season with Win at Home

Onaga gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Jackson Heights Cobras with a sharp 11-1 victory.

Bridgett Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jadyn Haskin and Makenzie Dorsey did most of the damage at the plate: Haskin went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles, while Dorsey went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Haskin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbie Ringel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Onaga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson Heights only posted a batting average of .118.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat Jackson Heights by a score of 11-1 later that day.
