Basketball Game Preview: Walnut Grove Wildcats vs. Melissa Cardinals

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Walnut Grove Wildcats challenge the Melissa Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday... Walnut Grove will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, Walnut Grove strolled past Anna with points to spare, taking the game 60-46. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Coyotes are ranked 494th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Parker Evanson was nothing short of spectacular: he went 7 for 11 on his way to 20 points. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Attie Reeves was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.

Walnut Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, Melissa earned a 56-45 victory over McKinney North on Tuesday.

Walnut Grove is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Melissa, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
