Basketball Recap: Okeechobee Comes Up Short

Okeechobee came up into this matchup off a tough 45-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Jensen Beach Falcons by a score of 48-46 on Friday. The Brahmans' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, Okeechobee still got an impressive performance from Oliver Saunders, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Saunders has posted since back in December of 2024. Chaynaya'Ah Phillips was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Jensen Beach found their leader in sophomore Vari Newson, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jalen Webley, who went 5 for 6 en route to 14 points.

Okeechobee's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Jensen Beach, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.

While Okeechobee had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
