Softball Recap: Southwestern Piasa Birds vs. Litchfield Purple Panthers

There's no place like home for Southwestern, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Monday. They had just enough and edged the Litchfield Purple Panthers out 6-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Southwestern also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.

Grace Strohbeck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Southwestern got a big performance out of Josie Hagen, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Ella Kadell was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and an RBI.

On Litchfield's side, Charlie Bono was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Rimar, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

The win got Southwestern back to even at 7-7. As for Litchfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Southwestern will head out on the road to square off against Quincy Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Quincy Notre Dame will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Southwestern surely won't give up without a fight. As for Litchfield, they will look to defend their home field in their first game on Saturday against Lincolnwood at 10:00 a.m. Litchfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
