Softball Recap: Taft Picks Up 11th Straight Win at Home

Taft won the last time they faced Chavez and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wildcats walked away with a 9-5 win over the Titans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Rilynne Stenderup was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Jaycee Edgar was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylee Owens, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Taft always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chavez only posted an OBP of .353.

Taft's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Chavez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Looking ahead, Taft will be playing in front of their home fans against Wasco at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chavez, they are taking a road trip to challenge Foothill at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
