Basketball Recap: Sophie Barbieri's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lecanto over Leesburg

Lecanto lost against Leesburg back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Panthers took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. The loss put an end to the Panthers' undefeated start to the season.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophie Barbieri, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aleena Borgus, who posted seven points and ten boards.

Morgan Campbell had another great game (as she tends to do), putting up 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Leesburg. Campbell's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Jasmine Scott was another key player, earning 14 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Lecanto fell to 2-1. As for Leesburg, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coincidentally, Lecanto and Leesburg will both be playing Springstead the next time they take the court. The Panthers will head out to face the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Yellow Jackets will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
