Softball Recap: Romeoville Takes a Loss

Romeoville extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-14 in the process. They came up short against the Oswego Panthers, falling 11-1. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Delany Giacomo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

As for Oswego, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 contests by six runs or more this season.

On Oswego's side, Aubriella Garza spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. Garza has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kiyah Chavez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double. Abby Schwab was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Romeoville is taking a road trip to face off against Plainfield South at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Oswego, they will host Lincoln-Way East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Griffins' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
