Nick Masonia, Shelby Holley break career home run records; Jacob Mayfield ties record with four homers.

Baseballs and softballs were flying out of Alabama parks at a record rate this past week.

Brooks (Killen, Ala.) senior shortstop Charles (Nick) Masonia set a state baseball record by slugging his 59th career home run. Masonia, who has 13 this year, erased a record that had stood since 1999. He plans to attend Northwest Florida Community College and could be taken during June's Major League Draft.

Westbrook Christian (Rainbow City, Ala.) senior catcher Jacob Mayfield tied a state record by belting four home runs during a 10-5 victory over West End (Birmingham, Ala.).

Slamming three homers in a single game last week were Jalin Lawson of Charles Henderson (Troy, Ala.), Alec Adamczyk of Hillcrest (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and Ajay Snow of Leroy (Ala.).

Shelby Holley, a senior catcher from Pisgah (Ala.), proved that girls can hit the long ball, too, by setting a state record with her 62nd career home run. It would have been a national record but she hit some as an eighth-grade player.
