Football Recap: Huntington Beach Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory + How To Watch

Huntington Beach extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 6-1. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 35-30 W against the La Habra Highlanders. For the Oilers, this counts as revenge for the 37-35 victory the Highlanders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Huntington Beach's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Edmunds, who threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Edmunds has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Troy Foster also helped out as he racked up 143 receiving yards.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Huntington Beach, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Steel Kurtz, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Huntington Beach's defense stepped up as well, laying out DJ Mitchell three times. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Kurtz and Caden Clark, who each picked up one sack apiece. Huntington Beach got some further help from Kurtz: he picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for La Habra, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2. The contest marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

La Habra lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mitchell, who threw for 235 yards and a pair of TDs, and also punched in one rushing score. Kevika Mata'Utia- Martinez handled things on the ground, rushing for 92 yards.

Looking ahead, Huntington Beach will host Foothill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for La Habra, they will head out on the road to square off against Crean Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders will need to watch out since the Saints have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.
