Baseball Recap: Salem Wildcats vs. Mattoon Greenwave

Salem lost to Mattoon back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Greenwave. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Rhett Detering spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. Salem is undefeated when Detering posts eight or more strikeouts, but 10-13 otherwise.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salem will face off against Richland County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.52 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mattoon, they will square off against Mahomet-Seymour at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
