Baseball Recap: Hesperia Christian Takes a Loss

Hesperia Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the University Prep Jaguars. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Gabe Sanchez put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Sanchez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Cory Villalba made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Hesperia Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ezra Hawthorne, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Hesperia Christian's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for University Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

While Hesperia Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
