Utica was sadly handed a loss on Friday, but Violet Smith did her best to prevent it. Smith struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk), good enough for us to rate the performance as the best she's had all season long. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Coming up, Smith and Utica will be playing at home against Utica Ford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last time these two faced off, Smith and Co. were forced to settle for a 10-2 loss.
