1A Region 5 recap October 22, 2013
Pickens County added to the longest winning streak in 1A Region 5 this week by beating Marion County, 35-13. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Tornadoes.
Lynn led the league in scoring this week after putting up 38 points on Parrish.
The Red Raiders' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Dorryl Swanigan contributed 116 yards.
Swanigan provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Marion County lost to Pickens County.
Swanigan was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 116 yards as Russell Funk's team fell to the Tornadoes. Teammate Cole added to the ground attack by rushing for 29 yards.
Marion County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Red Raiders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Aaron Pollard has thrown for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns this season, while Swanigan has 4 catches for 102 yards.
An important game coming up in 1A Region 5 this week will be when Pickens County takes on Berry. The Tornadoes are currently in first, while the Wildcats are in fourth.
