Softball Recap: Webster County Comes Up Short

Webster County fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Henderson County on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colonels. The Trojans have struggled against the Colonels recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Chloe Papineau spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Hailey Allen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Avery Guill also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Webster County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Henderson County, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 18-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Webster County will square off against Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Henderson County, they will challenge Trigg County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colonels are on a 17-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Wildcats a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
