Red Wing dropped their record down to 8-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Albert Lea Tigers by a score of 3-2. The Wingers were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Tigers' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Albert Lea, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Albert Lea's part, Preston Smith spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sam McGill was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Albert Lea beat Red Wing by a score of 6-4 later that day.
