Akiak had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Kalskag Grizzly Bears 55-52. Given the Thunderbolts' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Grizzly Bears are ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Akiak's victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Kalskag, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Akiak wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 52-44 defeat against Aniak on the 1st. Kalskag does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
