Basketball Game Preview: Nixon Mustangs vs. Palmview Lobos

Two dominant guards in Mason Vela and Jose L Gonzalez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Nixon Mustangs will welcome the Palmview Lobos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Nixon sitting on seven straight wins and Palmview on three.

Last Friday, Nixon humbled Roma with a 102-45 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Vela continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 10 for 18 on his way to 28 points and eight assists. The contest was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Uli Torres was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points along with five boards and four steals.

Nixon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Palmview was able to grind out a solid victory over Rio Grande City on Tuesday, taking the game 45-34.

Palmview has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Nixon, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-9.
