City View hasn't had much luck against Jacksboro recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
City View is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Childress last Friday as they made off with a 52-27 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.
City View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Malachi Williams out in front who threw for 186 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 31 yards. Brian Collier was Williams' top target, picking up zero receiving yards.
Meanwhile, after only 13 points in their last contest, Jacksboro made sure to put some points up on the board against Burkburnett last Friday. The Tigers claimed a resounding 62-13 win over the Bulldogs. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Tigers' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.
Jacksboro's win came from a few key players City View will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Wyatt Gavit, who threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.2% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Wesson, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Jacksboro proved: they limited Burkburnett to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. While three picked up at least two total tackles, Wesson stood above the rest. He picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Jacksboro's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.
Jacksboro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kase Dennis and Kris Wicks.
The victory made it two in a row for City View and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Jacksboro, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
City View beat Jacksboro 28-21 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tigers' Luke Sams, who rushed for 137 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 82 receiving yards and one score. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Mustangs to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
