Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Currituck County Knights

The First Flight Nighthawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Currituck County Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully First Flight focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, First Flight came up short against Northeastern and fell 48-41. It was the first time this season that First Flight let down their fans at home.

Despite the defeat, First Flight had strong showings from Aubrey Phanton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Maddy Beatson, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Beatson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

Meanwhile, Currituck County earned a 39-30 win over Albemarle School on Thursday.

Currituck County found their leader in underclassman Arianna White, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points White has scored all season. Savannah Banks was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

First Flight's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3. As for Currituck County, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: First Flight have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 43.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Currituck County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

First Flight ended up a good deal behind Currituck County in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 51-33. Can First Flight avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
