Softball Preview: Rossford Bulldogs vs. Fostoria Redmen
The Rossford Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Fostoria Redmen at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Rossford and 15 for Fostoria.
Rossford saw some tournament action on Friday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-4 to Lake, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Meanwhile, Fostoria didn't have quite enough to beat Genoa Area last Friday and fell 16-15. While the Redmen didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Comets 6-2 in the first period.
Makenna Clouse put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and 14 unearned) runs off 14 hits. Clouse was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Hayley Edwards stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Bernal, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Rossford's record now sits at 7-16. As for Fostoria, their record is now 2-20.
Rossford took their victory against Fostoria in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 23-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
