Baseball Recap: Westerly Takes Down Ranked Stonington

Westerly is ranked highly in their home state and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Stonington. The Bulldogs walked away with a 5-2 win over the Bears. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Tom Fiore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Fiore wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zack Miner, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Miner has posted since back in April. Another was Tyler Falcone, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Westerly's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Stonington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-6.

As of now, neither Westerly nor the Bears have any future games scheduled.
