Basketball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Roosevelt Mustangs

Having just played yesterday, the St. Augustine Saints will jump right back in to play the Roosevelt Mustangs at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

St. Augustine proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 24) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 win over Cathedral Catholic. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Dons: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Roosevelt, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Corona 86-48 on Wednesday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Panthers are ranked 361st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Augustine now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Roosevelt, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

St. Augustine was taken down by Roosevelt 79-36 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Thankfully for the Saints, Brayden Burries (who shot 7-for-8 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 33 points and nine boards) won't be suiting up this time.
