Baseball Recap: St. Paul Triumphs

With a playoff win on the line, St. Paul rose to the challenge on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers. This was a revenge game for the Flyers: when they faced off against the Panthers back in April, they had to take a 10-5 loss.

Alex Marsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, St. Paul saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adam Roth, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Roth a new career-high.

St. Paul is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Mary Central Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-12.

Looking ahead, St. Paul will face off against Calvert at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Senecas will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Flyers surely won't give up without a fight. St. Mary Central Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
