Softball Recap: Hermon Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Hermon had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Mount Desert Island on Tuesday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 10-0 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Mikelle Verrill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addy Waning, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Leah Walker also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Hermon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Desert Island only posted a batting average of .111.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Hermon, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Mount Desert Island, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Hermon has already played their next contest, a 14-3 victory against Ellsworth on the 15th. As for Mount Desert Island, they will take on Bucksport at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Bucks will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
