Softball Recap: Northwestern's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Northwestern extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 7-2 in the process. They never let the Cameron Comets get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. Five seems to be a good number for the Tigers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Not much got past Ellie Peterson, who gave up just four hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Cameron off the board. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Peterson.

On the hitting side, Claire Nielsen was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Sutherland, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Northwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

As for Cameron, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. The game marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Cameron's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brylee Viltz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Viltz has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Northwestern beat Cameron by a score of 2-0 later that day.
