Softball Game Preview: Lompoc Braves vs. Atascadero Greyhounds

Lompoc has gone a perfect 4-0 against Atascadero recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lompoc Braves will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Atascadero Greyhounds at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lompoc is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against San Marcos. Lompoc's pitcher stepped up to hand San Marcos an 11-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Braves have posted since March 25, 2024.

The result came thanks to Alex Brooks's shutout, as she gave up just two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Natalie Aguilar, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Rianna Stouppe, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Lompoc was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Atascadero narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Coalinga 7-6.

Savanah VanEck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. VanEck was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Kiera Armstrong and Devyn Dutra did most of the damage at the plate: Armstrong scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Dutra scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Armstrong has posted since back in March of 2024. Melisilei Tonga was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Lompoc skirted past Atascadero 11-9 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Does Lompoc have another victory up their sleeve, or will Atascadero turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
