Softball Recap: Southeast Golden Buffalo vs. Heights Falcons
Southeast had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it 12. They lost 26-1 to the Heights Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 on Thursday.
As for Heights, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Heights' part, Jaime Jimenez made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Jimenez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Wettstein, who fired off two home runs, three stolen bases, and eight RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Wilkins, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southeast will square off against North at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Buffalo are facing the RedHawks at the right time seeing as the RedHawks are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Heights, they will take on South at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.7 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
