Baseball Game Preview: River Road Wildcats vs. Dimmitt Bobcats

River Road and Dimmitt are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats take on the Bobcats at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. River Road is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

River Road lost 23-2 to Palo Duro on Tuesday.

River Road saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthoney Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. What's more, Williams posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Aaron Lovett also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, everything went Dimmitt's way against Abernathy on Monday as Dimmitt made off with a 24-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.

Rudy Fuentes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fuentes was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Ga'Quorie Chatham was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Kaden Carpio was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Dimmitt now has a winning record of 2-1. As for River Road, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. River Road has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dimmitt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

River Road might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Dimmitt when the teams last played on Saturday. Can River Road avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
