While Smithfield didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Westerly Bulldogs on Thursday as they made off with  a  7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won five contests by six  runs or more  so far this season.
 Crystal Cacador made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she  struck out nine batters over  seven innings while giving up just one earned run off   seven  hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate,  going 1-for-4 with two  runs and one  double.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Lily Riggin, who  went 1-for-3 with three  RBI and one  run. Another player making a difference was  Madison Kennedy, who  went 2-for-3 with one  run and one  RBI.
Smithfield pushed their record up to 5-2 with the  win, which was their fourth straight  at home. Those  home  victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Westerly,  they are  on  a  three-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 5-5.
 Looking ahead, Smithfield will host Moses Brown  at 11:00  a.m.  on Saturday. The Sentinels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Quakers have averaged an impressive 7.4  runs per game this season. As for Westerly, they will head out on the road to  challenge  Waterford  at 12:00  p.m.  on Saturday.
