Softball Game Preview: Pendleton Heights Arabians vs. Mt. Vernon Marauders

The Pendleton Heights Arabians will head out on the road to square off against the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pendleton Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

While Pendleton Heights' win against Connersville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Arabians narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 8-6. The win continues a trend for the Arabians in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.

Morgan Bricker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Fox, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Harley Coleman was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pendleton Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Shelbyville.

Emma Jenkins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Breanna Laffey also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Pendleton Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Everything went Pendleton Heights' way against Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Pendleton Heights made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Arabians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
