Basketball Recap: Tamiya Boone's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastern Wayne over North Duplin

Eastern Wayne was the 47-39 winner over North Duplin when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Warriors fell 52-40 to the Rebels on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while the Rebels are ranked 213th).

Eastern Wayne's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tamiya Boone, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards. Boone has been hot, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimani Dixon-Midgette, who posted six points and 14 boards.

North Duplin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lilly Fulghum led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Abby Rose, who put up 15 points and six boards.

Eastern Wayne is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7. As for North Duplin, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Eastern Wayne has already played their next contest, a 68-9 loss against SouthWest Edgecombe on the 2nd. As for North Duplin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-19 victory against Rosewood on the 2nd.
