Baseball Recap: Myrtle Point Triumphs

It was a proper cat-fight when Myrtle Point challenged Glide on Thursday. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 12-11.

Jake Sproul made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Myrtle Point is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. Sproul was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sawyer Jackson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Lane Hermann was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Myrtle Point has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Glide, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Myrtle Point will take on Waldport at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Glide, they will face off against Cottage Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
