Baseball Game Preview: South Caldwell Spartans vs. Alexander Central Cougars

The South Caldwell Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Alexander Central Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. South Caldwell's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Alexander Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

South Caldwell is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over West Caldwell on Wednesday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Alexander Central suffered their biggest defeat since March 21, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Watauga, falling 10-1. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Alexander Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The win was the third in a row for South Caldwell, bringing their record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Alexander Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

South Caldwell was able to grind out a solid win over Alexander Central in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
