Softball Recap: Newark Memorial Gets the Win

Newark Memorial took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Dougherty Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Newark Memorial Cougars skirted past the Dougherty Valley Wildcats 6-4. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 9-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Ariana Romo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Romo was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrea Tall, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Chloe Hastings was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Newark Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
