Recap: Corner Canyon Chargers vs. Riverton Silverwolves

The Corner Canyon Chargers won the last time they faced the Riverton Silverwolves, and things went their way on Thursday too. Corner Canyon took down Riverton 62-47. Given Corner Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Riverton is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elina Mortensen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 15 points for 15 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sorrelle Nielsen, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Riverton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Faythe Stauffer. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Maggie Hamblin was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.

Riverton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Corner Canyon pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.

Corner Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Riverton, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-14.

Corner Canyon will take on Herriman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Corner Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. As for Riverton, they will head out on the road to square off against Bingham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bingham focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
