Basketball Game Preview: Hooper Bay Warriors vs. Chevak Comets

Hooper Bay and Chevak are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2024, but not for long. The Hooper Bay Warriors will be playing at home against the Chevak Comets at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Hooper Bay: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Chevak has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road.

Hooper Bay saw some tournament action two weeks ago. They fell just short of Lumen Christi by a score of 36-34.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chevak). They breezed past Akiachak to the tune of 91-46 on Thursday. The Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Chevak's win came from a few key players Hooper Bay will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Laney Green, who posted 23 points. Those 23 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kali Hill, who scored 19 points.

Hooper Bay's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Chevak, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.

Hooper Bay was dealt a bruising 66-37 defeat at the hands of Chevak in their previous matchup back in January. Can Hooper Bay avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
