Baseball Game Preview: Wheatland Pirates vs. Oakmont Vikings

For the second straight game, Wheatland will face off against Oakmont. Wheatland will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Oakmont at 4:00 p.m. Wheatland is on a four-game streak of home wins, Oakmont a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.

Wheatland is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Oakmont just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 14-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pirates have suffered since April 11, 2024.

For Oakmont's part, Jaylan Patterson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, Patterson didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.

At the plate, Oakmont let Ayden Dringenberg and KC Tibbits run wild. Dringenberg went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Tibbits scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Tibbits a new career-high in RBI (three). Beau Ogles was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Oakmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oakmont's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Wheatland, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.
