Baseball Game Preview: Skyline Spartans vs. Newport - Bellevue Knights

The Skyline Spartans will face off against the Newport - Bellevue Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither Skyline nor Newport - Bellevue posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Skyline and North Creek, and North Creek kept the tradition alive. The Spartans fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 2-1 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Newport - Bellevue was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Mercer Island. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since March 17th.

Max Higbee was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March.

On the hitting side, Newport - Bellevue saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Unay, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Unay brought in this season.

Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Newport - Bellevue, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Skyline was able to grind out a solid victory over Newport - Bellevue in their previous matchup back in March, winning 4-1. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
