Basketball Recap: Northern Comes Up Short

Northern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-45 heartbreaker at the hands of Patterson Mill.

Despite the loss, Northern still got an impressive performance from Sydney Prince, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 19 points. What's more, Prince also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Erin Murphy was another key player, putting up two points in addition to ten rebounds and three blocks.

Patterson Mill got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zoe Valan out in front who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 17 boards. With that strong performance, Valan is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Marchena, who posted 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

Northern's loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Patterson Mill, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Northern wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-26 win against Patuxent on the 21st. As for Patterson Mill, they have also already played their next game, a 59-22 victory against Bohemia Manor on the 20th.
