Softball Recap: Nixon Find Success

Nixon proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Palmview Lobos, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since February 20th.

Giulia Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ruby Ibarra, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Yaritza Ramos, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Nixon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Palmview, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-6.

Coming up, Nixon will host United South at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games United South has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Palmview, they will square off against Rio Grande City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Grande City will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Palmview surely won't give up without a fight.
