Baseball Recap: Helix Comes Up Short

After flying high against Grossmont on Friday, Helix came back down to earth. The Highlanders came up short against the Granite Hills Eagles on Tuesday, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Highlanders have suffered since April 10th.

Helix got a good showing from Elijah Martinez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martinez is becoming a predictor of the Highlanders' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 6-3 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Helix saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Helix's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Granite Hills, the win keeps they at an undefeated 17-0-2.

Coincidentally, Helix and Granite Hills will both be playing El Capitan the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Highlanders will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
