Softball Game Preview: Peoria Lions vs. Stark County Rebels

Peoria hasn't had much luck against Stark County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lions will host the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Peoria has given up an average of 22.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Peoria is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They lost 18-0 to Peoria Notre Dame.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stark County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Bureau Valley 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rebels have posted since April 14th.

Brooklynn Ostrowski spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katie Grinnell, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Peoria's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Stark County, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.

Peoria suffered a grim 22-0 defeat to Stark County in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
