Baseball Recap: Moapa Valley Comes Up Short

Moapa Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against The Meadows School on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 5-4. The Pirates' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Lachlan Stephenson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last five matches. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lucas Pettingill made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Moapa Valley's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for The Meadows School, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moapa Valley will welcome Mojave at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mojave has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something Moapa Valley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for The Meadows School, they will face off against Mater Academy Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
