Meanwhile, Halifax County made easy work of Mecklenburg County on Thursday and carried off a 13-4 win. With that victory, the Comets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Conner Abbott was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three runs. He has become a key player for Halifax County: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, Garison Colwell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carter Thomasson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Halifax County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mecklenburg County only posted an OBP of .355.
Halifax County pushed their record up to 6-14 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for George Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.
