Atkins is a perfect 3-0 against Hector since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Atkins Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hector Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Atkins 3.8, Hector 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Tuesday, it was close, but Atkins sidestepped South Side for a 7-5 victory.
Meanwhile, Hector put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Acorn 13-2. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Sarena Myers was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Abigail Dodson and Addison Campbell did most of the damage at the plate: Dodson went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Campbell scored three runs while going 4-for-4. Dodson also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cassie Millsaps, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Hector was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .459 or higher in four consecutive games.
Atkins pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hector, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Atkins took their win against Hector when the teams last played back in April of 2018 by a conclusive 16-6. Does Atkins have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hector turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
